Don’t say the phrase, don’t say the phrase…

We’re so back.
In typical fashion, I write about everything way after it happens. Last week was pretty hype, with showcases from PlayStation, RGG, and Tokyo Game Show, although the latter has been pretty silent, in my opinion.
Let’s talk shop.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 is real and a lil messy
RGG (Ryu Ga Gotoku) Studios, developers behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series and Virtua Fighter, kicked off the reveals with the RGG Summit. As you can imagine, the Summit served as a digital showcase where the developer was likely to reveal something Yakuza/Like a Dragon.
They did, at least, after their own website leaked the nature of the reveal, Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remake of the third mainline entry. The Kiwami remakes serve as a good entry point for new fans, offering all the bells and whistles of modern technology, improved controls, and other gameplay improvements. Yakuza 3 needed it, since its 2009 release does not hold up as well as its updated counterparts (Kiwami 1 and 2).
This one is a little bit meatier though, as it comes with Dark Ties, a separate experience that chronicles Yakuza 3’s antagonist Yoshitaka Mine’s descent into infamy.
Nice.
Not everything is rainbows and sunshine for Kiwami 3, as the trailer revealed brand new looks for Rikiya Shimabukuro and Goh Hamazaki. I guess RGG is going for the voice actor’s likeness, but it’s so jarring that it makes Insomniac’s Peter Parker transformation pale in comparison.
I’m not upset by any means, but I do wish they updated their likenesses instead of completely reworking them.
Why is no one calling out the biggest travesty, the look of the “3” in the title??
Short Australian man butchers the opposition (459K likes on YouTube)
Wolverine was revealed back in 2021 (crazy right) and has been relatively silent since its reveal, if you don’t count the massive Insomniac leak from a few years ago.
Sony’s State of Play closed out with the first official (not leaked) look at the game, and my goodness, it’s brutal (in a good way).
I’ve watched the trailer a few times since it dropped, mostly because the music is good. Something about the art style isn’t clicking for me, but everything else is so good. Logan and all his short-man glory are in full display, as he relentlessly murders his foes with his blades of steel (Adamantium, I know).
I’m excited to see what they do with this one, and I can’t wait to see how Insomniac’s PMCU (PlayStation Marvel Cinematic Universe) unfolds.
Wolverine arrives in Fall 2026, but Spring 2026 will deliver more news, Insomniac said in a developer video.
“How many games do we want to copy for Ananta?” “Yes.”- NetEase 2025
I have no idea what this is, but Ananta will either be the biggest game of all time, or the biggest lawsuit of all time (I’m not a lawyer, nor am I advocating for suing).
This is the first time I’ve heard of Ananta, a game that was revealed almost a year ago. Count how many games you recognize in this trailer.
I’m not going to lie, this looks cool, but it also is free-to-play and comes from NetEase, whom aren’t exactly shy of charging an arm and leg in all their F2P games.
I’m sure this will go far, especially since it’s coming to mobile.
Honorable Mentions
Saros – I’m pretty sure everyone knows what to expect from Housemarque’s next game after the phenomenal Returnal. If you weren’t sure, the State of Play revealed it’s a prettier looking Returnal, with some new mechanics like Second Chance and a shield that absorbs and deals more damage.
Chronoscript: The Endless End – This was a cute little reveal, and I’m loving the art style and the vibes I got.
Forza Horizon 6 – I’m not a racing enthusiast, so this one is included for all the racers out there. Forza Horizon 6 takes the realism to Japan, nice.
